Pretty Little Girl comes from the playing of legendary Round Peak fiddler Tommy Jarrell, via Clelia Stefanini's playing on the album linked to below. If ever there was a simple and direct tune for showcasing and teaching the basic Round Peak bowing, this is it. The fiddle is tuned DDAD, with the low D string and the high D string used only for drones. In other words, all the noting is done on the two middle strings! The tune is in D, but it seems to have close familial ties to John Brown's Dream in A. Besides the tunes having strong similarities, there are also clues to this in some words sung to John Brown's Dream, such as "I'm gonna marry that pretty little gal" and "who's been here while I been gone, pretty little gal with the red dress on." Here is a sample from the Stefanini album, first time through only: "Pretty Little Girl" sample by Rafe & Clelia Stefanini
