Duck River is a standard and beloved D tune, and seems to be of the same family as Dubuque and Muddy Road to Kansas. Raised bass D tuning. I've recorded the tune as shown in the tablature, in slow and moderate speeds. Listen here: The bowing for this version is modeled largely after the playing of Bruce Molsky playing the Chicago Barn Dance, with a little enhancement in the B part from Brittany Haas' wonderful self-titled album. The source tune can be found on Berea's album (I have the cassette) AC003: John Morgan Salyer, Home Recordings 1941-1942. This deceptively simple tune has a lot of nice things going on -- synchopations, bow rocks, bow pulses, and the ubiquitous "Tommy lick" or pushed shuffle.
