From an advanced fiddle class with Bruce Molsky at Augusta, long ago: Q: How do you learn a tune? A: I commute about 25 miles each day to work, and I put in on a tape... I have a little repeat button that senses the pause in the tape... and I listen to it until I'm completely sick of it, to where I don't want to play it. Then I go on to the next thing, and about a month later it usually pops up into my head just like I've known it all my life. And then I kind of work on it from there. I'd much rather have a feel for something before I try to play it.
